First names only for students
Students don't need accounts. Teachers add students to crews by first name or nickname for XP and badges. Don't enter last names, birthdays, IDs or contact details for students.
We never sell student data
We don't sell, rent or trade student information, and we don't use it for advertising. Industry partners and sponsors never receive student data or targeted access to students.
FERPA and COPPA intent
HappyTeachers is designed so schools can use it consistently with FERPA: student information stays under the school's control and is used only to provide the service. Accounts are for adults (teachers, administrators, parents). The service isn't directed to children under 13, and we follow COPPA practices where they apply, such as school authorization.
What we store
Instructor account details, equipment records and photos you upload, lessons, logged sessions, and crew first names with XP. AI features send equipment and lesson details, not student information, to generate content.
Your controls
Instructors and schools can export or delete their data on request. Districts can request data-governance terms and a data processing agreement as part of procurement.
Forms and inquiries
When you submit a form (pilot application, partner interest, quote request, advocacy sign-up or story), it's stored securely and visible only to HappyTeachers staff. We use it only to respond to you.
This page summarizes our intent and practices. It isn't legal advice, and it doesn't replace a district's own data-privacy agreement. Schools with specific state requirements (for example, student-privacy pledges or state data agreements) can ask us to review them during procurement.
